Partners
ICDF partners with many programs to be successful. Among them are the following based locally here in Portland, Oregon.
Mercy Corps Northwest
Mercy Corps Northwest programs work to increase economic self-sufficiency and community integration through microenterprise development and self-employment. We assist low-income current and aspiring small-business owners throughout Oregon and Washington in order to reduce unemployment, grow personal incomes and assets, and increase economic growth.
Our mission runs parallel to the mission of our parent organization, Mercy Corps: To alleviate suffering, poverty and oppression by helping people build secure, productive and just communities.
The Pangaea Project
By engaging teenagers from under-served neighborhoods in local and international service-learning projects, The Pangaea Project promotes the development of leadership skills, increases global awareness, and fosters a commitment to work towards social change, profoundly transforming both the participants and their communities.
Carpe Diem Education
http://carpediemeducation.org/
Carpe Diem International Education runs international academic programs that work with youth in an educational capacity to get them both out of the country and out of their comfort zones. They firmly believe that the greatest treasure in every being is their own self-reliance: the knowledge that "every student already has everything they could ever need." Throughout the course of their semesters, much energy is focused toward helping students learn just what it means to take ownership of their lives.
Carpe Diem's programs have been running internationally since 1998. Since its inception, programs have grown to include East Africa, Southeast Asia, the South Pacific, India, and Latin America.
Sustainable Health Abroad
http://www.sustainablehealthabroad.org
Sustainable Health Abroad is a group of committed individuals based out of Portland, OR dedicated to improving the health outcomes of underserved populations through education and sustainable efforts. We believe in empowerment to promote the longevity of our aide. We explore various communities globally and get a sense of a felt need of the people. We listen and learn from the people to get a culturally sound idea of not only what that particular community needs, but what could turn into a project that becomes locally self-sufficient and leaves a minimal footprint.
Open Meadow
Open Meadow successfully re-engages disconnected youth in their education, providing academic and support services to those at high risk of dropping out of school. All students work toward high school graduation.
We educate students in small middle and high school programs and provide an array of transition services that help students move smoothly from middle school to high school and from high school to college and career. In 2009 - 10, Open Meadow served nearly 900 youth in our programs.
